The accident involving a Modern Coast bus which occurred on Sunday, July 24 at the Tharaka Nithi bridge has claimed at least 30 lives.
Reports say that the bus was ferrying passengers from Maua to Mombasa before the 6.30 pm accident.
Moreover, Tharaka Nithi County Commissioner Nobert Komora on Sunday night reported that those who sustained injuries had been rushed to Chogoria and Chuka hospitals.
Rescue teams at the scene helped the survivors out of the wreckage. Likewise, retrieval of bodies has continued to Monday, July 25.
In addition, as of Sunday, at least 20 people had been pronounced dead but unfortunately, six more bodies were retrieved early Monday morning from the wreckage.
According to Police, 13 others were nursing critical injuries as the search for more bodies which might still be remaining in the river entered the second day.
Nonetheless, several photos and videos shared online showed the mangled wreckage of the bus strewn on the hillside near the infamous Tharaka Nithi blackspot.

Also, part of the wreckage could be seen in the river.
Furthermore, Police officers and rescue teams at the accident scene reported that the bus most likely lost brakes, and hit an oncoming vehicle before plunging 40 feet into the river below.
