President William Ruto has appointed former Member of Parliament for Lungalunga, Khatib Mwashetani, as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) Board.
In a gazette notice dated Friday, November 28, President Ruto revoked the appointment of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Treasurer Timothy Bosire.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (a) of the National Transport and Safety Authority Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint- Mwashetani Khatib Abdallah to be the non-executive Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the National Transport and Safety Authority, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 28th March, 2025. The appointment of *Timothy Bosire is revoked,” read the gazette notice.

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General, Hassan Omar congratulated the former MP following his appointment.

“Congratulations my dear, dear, dear Brother Hon. Khatib Mwashetani on your appointment as Chairperson of the National Transport Safety Authority. A good man you indeed are. Patience, resilience and loyalty are indeed your virtues,” said Omar.

At the same time the UDA Secretary General thanked President Ruto for Mwashetani’s appointment.
“Thank you too, H.E. The President, Hon. William Samoei Ruto. Wakizikataa tupe sisi,” Omar said.
Khatib Abdallah Mwashetani represented Lungalunga Constituency in the National Assembly from 2013 to 2022.
Mwashetani Career
He was first elected to the National Assembly during the 11th Parliament (2013-2017) on a ticket from the Forum for Restoration of Democracy-Kenya (FORD-Kenya).
Mawashetani was re-elected in the 12th Parliament (2017-2022) under the Jubilee Party. However, in the 2022 general elections, he ran for office under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) but lost his seat to Mangale Chiforomodo of the United Democratic Movement (UDM).
Mwashetani, in addition to being a politician, has served as a director at Manizle Ltd.
He has a background in Business Administration and Management from Moi University, as well as a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Nairobi.

Mwashetani’s appointment comes a few months after Timothy Bosire, the ODM National Treasurer and former MP for Kitutu Masaba, declined President William Ruto’s offer to become the Non-Executive Chairperson of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) Board.
Bosire stated that he made his decision after consulting with his family, friends, and community.
He expressed gratitude to President Ruto for the opportunity but emphasized that community interests played a crucial role in his choice.
