Ruto Hits Back at Uhuru Kenyatta Over Supporting GenZ Protests

President William Ruto has hit back at his former boss Uhuru Kenyatta over rallying the Kenyan youths to fight for their rights.

Speaking during an interdenominational service in Bungoma County, the Head of State said that leaders should not be inciting the youths, adding that violence was not an answer to the desperate problems they have.

Further, he said that leaders should instead be rallying for job and business opportunities, adding that it was the greatest need of Kenyans.

“Our young people deserve the best from us as parents, leaders, and government. We should not incite our children. These young people of Kenya don’t need violence or confrontation.

“They want opportunities and jobs. They want opportunities to engage in business and that is what we should be doing as leaders instead of inciting them to violence, destruction and many other things.

“That will not solve their problem and will not solve the problems of our country,” said Ruto.

Moreover, he indicated that the government was putting in place measures to provide opportunities for the youth through projects.

“We need to provide opportunities for our young people, through housing and digital jobs, labour migration and other plans in progress.” added the president.

What Uhuru Speech is Ruto Referring To?

In the footage shared online, Uhuru Kenyatta calls on the youth to persist in advocating for their rights. Also, he continues to express his view on the increasing influence of Kenyan youth in political discourse.

While he was presumed to be sending a message to GenZs in Kenya, the former president sent a personal message to his first cousin Kibathi Muigai’s family during the latter’s burial.

During the burial service in Nairobi on Friday, January 17, Uhuru encouraged Kibathi’s family to stand firm and fight for what rightfully belonged to them.

“I was very proud of that young man who committed himself to continue with the fight that his father had started. Your father was a warrior. The problem with people nowadays is fear. I don’t know who has threatened you, even you Ngina, come back and join the fight. You Gen Zs are the future,” said the former president.

Additionally, he called on the family to fight for what they rightfully deserve, saying that other people can take advantage of their hard-earned sweat.

“Fight for your rights, not just sitting there while your property is being taken away and the way you have worked hard for it. Fight for it and make sure you get justice. Are you listening?

“You can’t just stand there and let people take your hard-earned sweat,” added Uhuru.
