Kenya Power has blocked third-party vendors from selling pre-paid electricity tokens effective September
Moreover, the Kenya Power company announced that it has terminated all contracts signed with service providers such as banks in purchasing tokens.
Through a notice released on August 30, the utility company said that purchase of prepaid tokens as well as postpaid bill payments will only be done through M-PESA Paybill, KPLC banking halls or via a USSD code.
“The purchase of prepaid tokens and payment of postpaid bills will only be made through the following authorized channels: Prepaid Channels (Tokens) M-PESA Paybill 888880; Postpaid Channels (Bills) M-PESA Paybill 888888 or Authorised banks (https://kplc.co.ke/content/item/30),” part of the notice read.
In addition, the payment of new connections will be made through M-PESA Paybill number 888899.
Likewise, customers can make payments through or purchase tokens via USSD code *977#.
Similarly, customers can also access these services through KPLC banking halls nationwide.

“Please note that no other third-party agent is authorised to offer these services on behalf of KPLC. The Company will therefore not take liability for any transaction conducted through any other platform,” Kenya Power stated.
Nonetheless, some of the third-party vendors who have been buying tokens for prepaid customers and are affected by this move include: VendIT and Dynamo Digital, as well as cyber cafes and corner shops.
