The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has revealed that the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) received the highest amount of bribes in 2023.
The National Ethics and Corruption Survey (NECS) 2023 noted that respondents recorded the largest amount of bribe summing to Ksh81,801 on average from NTSA.
According to NECS 2023 Judiciary received Ksh49,611, coming in as the second highest amount of bribe within the same period.
Other public institutions where service seekers had to pay large bribes to access services as per the report were the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) with an average of Ksh40,000 and the County Government offices (Ksh26,223).
Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) was ranked fifth with an average of Ksh23,738 followed by the County Public Service Boards at Ksh17,000.
The Immigration Department and the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) recorded Ksh12,570 and Ksh11,430 respectively.
In addition, Inspector General Japhet Koome is also on the spot after various police departments were ranked as follows: Police (Ksh11,115), Police Service Commission (Ksh10,000), Traffic Police (Ksh7,011) and Administration Police (Ksh2,000).
EACC also revealed that the Ministry of Lands and the National Land Commission (NLC) received an average of Ksh7,447 and Ksh6,957 respectively as bribe in 2023.
The Youth Fund Office (Ksh5,000), National Hospital Insurance Fund (Ksh4,611), County Health Department (Ksh3,618) and Agriculture Department (Ksh3,512) have also been listed.

Other Key Institutions Listed by EACC
Other notable institutions which received bribes include Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company (Ksg3,000), Ministry of Interior (Ksh2,815), Public Hospitals (Ksh2,534) and Embu Water Sewerage Company (Ksh2,500).
County Commissioners and their deputies received an average of Ksh2,790 as bribe while Chiefs and Village Elders received Ksh2,222.
The Ministry of Health (MoH) under CS Susan Nakhumicha was also ranked among the institutions that had the highest amount in bribes in the year 2023.
MoH received Ksh2,195 as bribe followed by Civil Registration (Birth and Death) with an average of Ksh2,182.

Public Service CS Moses Kuria is equally on the spot after Huduma Centre appeared among the agencies that received huge bribes in 2023 (Ksh2,078).
Within this period, the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and Directorate of Criminal Investigations received an average of Ksh2,012 and Ksh1,500 as bribe.
Besides, the Ministry of Agriculture (Ksh945) and the offices of the Members of County Assembly (MCAs), Ksh1,261 are among the institutions ranked by EACC.
The other agencies are National Construction Authority (Ksh1,500), Registrar of Persons, ID (Ksh1,167) and County Inspectorate (Ksh500).
