Former Nambale Member of Parliament John Sakwa Bunyasi has filed a petition in the Busia High Court challenging Dr Paul Otuoma’s win in the Busia Gubernatorial race.
Bunyasi addressed the press at Firmview hotel in Busia, where he said to have already filed the petition challenging the results that declared Dr Paul Otuma as the winner.
“I have taken necessary legal action as prescribed by the law. I was not satisfied with the outcome of the election, I have enough evidence to prove in court that my competitor used unfair means to win the election,” Bunyasi said.
The petition filed stated Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission, Governor elect Otuoma and his deputy governor Arthur Odera as the first, second and third respondents, respectively.
Dr. Otuoma was declared the winner by the Busia County Returning Officer Lazarus Chebii with 164,478 votes against Bunyasi who garnered 92,144 votes.
The governor-elect was officially sworn in two weeks ago, on August 25, where he called on all his political rivals to join hands with the administration in a bid to ensure the country gets development.
Otuoma went ahead to thank the people of Busia and promised to deliver in a social media post.
“Thank you, people of Busia. I won’t let you down.” Stated the tweet.

The Governor-elect is however already at work as today he suspended all chief officers.
“Today I have sent on compulsory leave the County Secretary Nichodemus Mulaku, all County Executive Committee Members and Chief Officers as part of restructuring of my government. The action takes effect immediately to facilitate the implementation of my 100-Days “RRI” program” said Otuoma.
The petitioner, Bunyasi however, asked his supporters to maintain peace.
“I have always been a peaceful person and I want to maintain peace and that is the reason I am here. To my people, keep calm because this issue will be addressed in court,” he noted.
