Two women have been arrested for conducting Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) on four girls at Sechelezi, Isiolo County on Saturday, December 17.
The mother of three of the girls who is also an aunt to the fourth girl is one of the two women that were arrested. The other suspect is allegedly the one who cut the girls’ genitals.
Moreover, Isiolo county police commander Hassan Barua while confirming the incident stated that they arrested the two women after a tip off from a villager.
“We are holding the two waiting to arraign them on Monday for subjecting the girls to genital mutilation,” Barua Said.
The four girls aged between 11 and 14 were taken to Isiolo level four hospital for treatment.

The Isiolo county commander further warned parents and guardians that those who are conducting FGM will face the full force of law.
“We will ruthlessly deal with any parent subjecting their daughters to the harmful practice,” he said, adding that the state was keen on protection of girls’ rights.
Nonetheless, anti-FGM activists say continuous anti-FGM campaigns and calls for girls to embrace alternative rites of passage would massively contribute to the success of the fight to end the practice.
