Three candidates vying for the Kakamega County Assembly Speaker position on Monday September 21 moved to court to stop the election exercise.
The three candidates claimed that their names were missing from the list of shortlisted people for the speaker’s seat.
The candidates, former Shinyalu MP Justus Kizito Mugali, politician Brian Lishenga and Leornard Shimaka made the move to court after they were barred from entering the County Assembly grounds.
According to a statement on their official Facebook page, the Kakamega County Assembly is set to swear in elected MCAs today, September 21, where after they are expected to elect their speaker and deputy speaker.
“Some 89 Members of the County Assembly of Kakamega will take Oath of office today Wednesday, 21st September 2022 at the Assembly Chambers. This will be followed by the election of a Speaker and Deputy Speaker. Three candidates have been cleared for the position of the Speaker. They are the incumbent, Hon.Morris Indakwa Buluma, Mr. James Namatsi Wanjala and former majority leader at the Assembly Hon. Kennedy Kilakwe.” Read part of the post.
The three candidates blocking the election allegedly did not submit all the required documents in time for the shortlisting.
