A man died after he was electrocuted at a construction site in Ndia Kirinyaga County.
The victim identified as Stephen Muciimi who worked as a mason in the construction site accidentally came into contact with a high voltage power line in Sagana town.
“The deceased was among workers who were constructing a building in the area,” Wilson Ndirangu, a resident, said.
However, the locals faulted the National Construction Authority (NIA), for approving the project.
“Some buildings are earmarked for demolition courtesy of the authority. We wonder what criteria are applied to do so. This building poses a risk to the would-be tenants.”
Moreover, Kenya Power Kirinyaga branch manager Ruto Chirchir accused those behind the construction of encroaching on overhead power lines.
“This can cause short circuit faults and, in the end, pose a major threat to the security of residents and stability of power in this area,” Chirchir said.

Nevertheless, Kirinyaga police commander Mathrew Mang’ira said police have launched a probe into the incident.
