A man has died in Mwea, Kirinyaga County after an electric pole fell on him.
The man was among a few others that had been called to help erect the pole.
“He was called to assist in erecting the pole for Ksh.50 shillings only for the pole to fall on him,” Josphat Muchiri, a resident, said.
Residents had been complaining about delays in power connectivity in the area for a couple of days.
Following the incident, residents alerted police officers from Mutithi and the area chief.
The Kenya Power Regional manager Kipkorir Ruto in his statement said the erection of the pole had been illegal as it had not been authorized by their office.
“We have been carrying out a campaign seeking to weed out illegal connections in this region. It is unfortunate that this still happens,” Kipkorir said.
The body of the deceased has been taken to Kerugoya mortuary awaiting postmortem.
Mwea-West Sub- County police commander Wilson Koskei said investigations are ongoing.
