Kisii County Assembly has impeached the County Public Service Board members.
69 members of the county assembly (MCAs) voted out the board while only two members voted in their favor.
Moreover, all 71 MCAs participated in the exercise.
The five impeached Public Service Board members and the secretary had appeared before the Assembly’s Committee on Labor and manpower in a petition that was filed by Benson Atika, a resident from Nyaribari Masaba Constituency in Kisii County.
The petitioner accused the Kisii County public service board of violating the Constitution including poor human resource practices and participating in illegal job promotions.
According to Mr. Benson Atika, the issue of ghost workers in the county has led to a bloated county wage bill. He argued that the board members intentionally bypassed the law on recruitment and converted casual employee contracts to permanent and pensionable. He added that the officials also promoted employees without properly laid down laws and regulations.
