Benson Thuranira Kathiai who is an aspirant for the Meru County’s Muthara Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat has been arrested in connection to several fraud-related robbery cases reported across the country.
The aspiring MCA is accused of illegally obtaining Ksh. 415,000 from different M-Pesa agents in Nakuru, Shauri Moyo, Busia and Meru on different occasions.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mr. Benson Thuranira could be the brains behind the notorious ‘Confirm’ gang in Nakuru County.
A statement by the DCI reads: “Thuranira who is vying for the Muthara ward seat was arrested by detectives, following numerous complaints from Mpesa agents who had lost money to his machinations.” “In Nakuru, the thug obtained Ksh.100, 000 from two M-PESA agents before he obtained a further Ksh. 135,000 in Shauri Moyo, Ksh. 60,000 in Busia and Ksh. 120,000 in Meru before he was finally arrested.”
The suspect is set to stay in police custody until May 30, 2022 when he is to be arraigned at the Nakuru Law Courts and charged with fraud.
Detectives have further urged Kenyans who may have been victims of the fraudster to report the matter to the nearest police station.
