The new Kenya national examinations council (Knec) multi billion headquarters is set to be officially opened tomorrow.
The modern Mitihani house will be the Knec nerve center .
Based in Nairobi’s South C, the building’s construction cost the taxpayer some Sh 3 billion.
Interestingly, the construction of the building has dragged on since 1985
On Friday, Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha is scheduled to preside over the opening of the state-of-the building .
Knec has already moved its operations to the modern center.
“This is to inform our esteemed customers and stakeholders that we have moved the Knec head office and all our services to the New Mtihani House, Popo Road, South C,” a statement from Knec to stakeholders read.
Knec has in the past been forced to operate from six different offices with a monthly rent of up to Sh60 million.
Centralization of operations is expected to save the council millions of shillings incurred in costs of printing examinations.
According to Knec, the building contains an examination printing center.
It will also host the Knec secretariat
At the same time it will also enhance security and confidentiality of the examinations.
Initially,Knec had its offices along Dennis Pritt Road, Industrial Area, National Bank Building, and the National Housing Corporation building, which also acted as the council’s headquarters.
