Elizabeth Githinji Wanjiru, the pastor who reportedly committed suicide at her ex-lover’s house in Kahawa West, Nairobi did not do so, her family says.
In a new revelation, Wanjiru’s kinsmen say the pastor had received death threats from her lover Dishon Mirugi after the two were embroiled in a scuffle over a Ksh700,000 debt.
In a Wednesday, March 22 interview with a local media house, Wanjirus’ family say she loaned Dishon the money to help him set up his church with the musician cum preacher promising to pay back the loan.

Wanjiru’s sister Esther Mugure said the deceased called and asked her to visit her when she began receiving the death threats.
Mugure said that on Friday, March 17, Wanjiru informed her that she was going to Dishon’s house in Kahawa West to get her money back but feared for her life.
“In December, she asked me to see her and I travelled from Isinya to Nairobi. She informed me that she was receiving threats from Dishon Mirugi.
“She called me on Friday and told me that she feared for her life because she was going to the house of the gospel artist to get her money back,” Mugure said amid tears.
Mugure attempted to reach her sister via phone but all was in vain since all her calls went unanswered.
When Wanjiru’s phone was finally answered, it was received by an officer from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI) who informed the family of her death.
“We tried calling her on Saturday and Sunday after she went to Dishon’s place but there was no response from her.
“After several calls on Sunday, the DCI received the call and informed us that she was dead,” Mugure said.
According to the postmortem results, Wanjiru died from suffocation from the neck due to pressure on the neck but it had not yet been determined if she committed suicide or was strangled.
