The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) will name and reward teachers who excelled in the 2021 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examinations (KCSE), and Community Service.
The awards are to be issued to the teachers during an event to celebrate World Teachers Day today, October 5.
Moreover, TSC CEO Nancy Macharia while speaking during the release of KCPE examinations in March announced that the commission will recognize and award thirty teachers who excelled in various areas. In addition, teachers who participated in national examination supervision, invigilation and marking will also be rewarded.
The TSC boss expressed her gratitude to the teachers for their selfless effors of preparing students for the national exams.
Nonetheless, World Teachers Day was created by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1994 to recognize and appreciate the teaching profession worldwide. Hence, the day has become one of the most important occasions in the UN calendar over the years.
World Teachers Day provides an opportunity to reflect on ways to counter the challenges of teaching professionals.
Furthermore, this year’s celebrations come at a time when, teachers are also looking to President William Ruto who during his campaigns made a commitment to address inequities in the education sector to ensure a level playing field for all.
According to President Ruto, the goal is to ensure there are no half-baked people at the end of the education chain.
