Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has refuted allegations that he had asked President William Ruto to engage in a “handshake” with the opposition.
In a recent statement, Governor Sakaja highlighted the importance of involving all leaders in discussions and avoiding exclusion in politics.
He stated, “No one wants a handshake or nusu mkate. But you must acknowledge all leaders, you must be able to hear what are the legitimate concerns.” He emphasized that the politics of exclusion is not the politics of Kenya Kwanza, which promotes inclusion.
Governor Sakaja clarified that he had not called for a handshake but instead appealed to President Ruto to engage in discussions with the opposition to prevent nationwide mass action.
Despite Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s and President Ruto’s unwavering stance against a handshake, Governor Sakaja believes in the importance of involving all leaders in discussions for the betterment of Kenya.
