The Kakamega Health officials have launched a probe on a suspected Ebola case in Mumias.
The suspected case is of a patient who had travelled to Uganda to visit relatives.
According to a statement by the Mumias West Disease Surveillance Co-coordinator Boaz Gichana, the patient exempting Ebola signs is admitted at the St Mary Hospital isolation unit undergoing confirmation tests.
Earlier in the month, the World Health Organization confirmed a death and other cases of Ebola in Kenya’s neighboring country Uganda.

Since then, the Kenyan Government issued an Ebola alert, positioning screenings on the Kenya-Ugandan borders.

The Busia Deputy Governor had asked people to stay calm, as surveillance at the border was strict as the disease was not only a threat to Busia County, but the whole country at large.
“We are closely working with the national Government which has the interventions that can be implemented in the country’s border points. Besides, we are educating the public so that everyone can remain vigilant.”
“The outbreak has not only been a threat to Busia County but to the entire nation, thus the need for concerted efforts by the County and National Government to avert its invasion into the country” he then said.
Citizens have been urged to stay alert and report any cases of Ebola symptoms to help manage the disease.
