Human rights activist groups under the umbrella of Angaza movement have asked IEBC to make public the final voters’ register.
According to the activists this is part of measures to secure the integrity of the election.
Moreover, through a statement, Angaza movement said that the voters register is a highly sensitive and vital part of any electoral process as it is the getaway to the ballot box. Therefore, it will be difficult to assess the credibility of elections without a credible register.
The Angaza movement represents several human rights groups including; Africog, CRAWN Trust, HAKI YETU, MUHURI, ICJ-Kenya INUKA Kenya, MIDRIFT NETWORK, and INFORMACTION.
“It is now 31 days to the general election and Kenyans are yet to receive the aggregated voters’ register for the polling stations. By failing to publish the register for public inspection to date, IEBC is in direct contravention of election laws and regulations,” reads part of the statement.
In addition, the Angaza movement pointed out that the voters register has been at the center of election disputes in Kenya.
Besides, they added that it has been faulted for electoral anomalies such as; transfer of voters without their knowledge, duplicate identification records, discrepancies between the paper register and electronic version as well as shifting totals in the number of registered voters.

Furthermore, they highlighted the year 2013 when a grievance was raised following mysterious shifts in the number of voters in certain party stronghold areas. Moreover, the voters register was also contested in 2017, for similar reasons.
A part from releasing the register to the public, the human rights group also urged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to release the KPMG voter Report Audit in its entirety to the public.
According to Angaza movement this is to allow the public to see whether IEBC has complied with KPMG’s recommendations.
