Azimio-One Kenya Coalition now wants the electoral commission to correct what it terms as “ethnic imbalance and skewed deployment of election officials”.
In a letter addressed to IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati, Azimio now demands a halt to the recruitment exercise.
Azimio wants IEBC to stop the shortlisting, recruitment and deployment of Presiding Officers, Deputy presiding officers and clerks.
The coalition also wants IEBC to redeploy some Returning Officers.
This ,it says will dismantle what they termed as “partisan networks and disrupt a well-laid rigging scheme”.
“The commission should immediately furnish us with names of Returning Officers from 21 constituencies left blank (ungazetted) in the Gazette Notice no 4961 dated April 28,” the letter.
It notes that appointment of ROs listed in the Gazette Notice is ethnically imbalanced.
IEBC has however said that most of the Returning Officers were employed on a permanent and pensionable basis between 2013 and 2017.
Azimio has raised fears that some of the election officials might be aids of election rigging on voting day.
Deputy president William Ruto has however defended IEBC saying that he has no problem with whoever is hired to serve as an election official.
