Gubernatorial polls for Kakamega and Mombasa counties are set to take place on Monday August 29,the IEBC has announced
The Postponed general-elections will also take place in six other elective areas that had been affected
The new date for the postponed polls was arrived at during a meeting between the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission and candidates from the affected areas
Other elections include MP races in Kitui Rural Constituency (Kitui County), Kacheliba Constituency (West Pokot County), Pokot South Constituency (West Pokot County) and Rongai Constituency (Nakuru County).
Voting for Member of County Assembly Ward in Nyaki West (North Imenti Constituency -Meru County), Kwa Njenga (Embakasi South Constituency – Nairobi County) had also been suspended.
Initially IEBC had set the August 23 as the date the elections were to take place before postponing it indefinitely last week, citing harassment and intimidation of its staff.
Some candidates in Mombasa and Kakamega had moved to court to compel the Chebukati led polls agency to hold the elections
During the meeting, Chebukati said the commission needs to conclude with the elections to allow it prepare party lists
He noted that party lists can only be prepared after all the elections are done
At the same time, Chebukati said the commission will write to the education Ministry asking for a permission to use schools in the affected areas as polling stations.
