Former Citizen TV journalist Kimani Mbugua has stirred concern among online users following a recent social media outburst captured in a video.
Diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2020, Mbugua has had a number of outbursts with his social media page highlighting the severity of his mental health struggles.

However, the latest video shows him shouting and banging several items on a table while threatening to use force and violence to retrieve money he is allegedly owed.
In the video’s accompanying caption he stated, “If you owe me money, better send it now because I have guns to protect my money. I will transport you to heaven, stop your empty threats.”

This behavior led to reactions from concerned netizens who emphasized the urgent need for help for the former media personality.

Barak Gumba expressed his concern by saying, “I’m so concerned about Kimani Mbugua. You used to be a good man and all of a sudden, these. Beyond repair now.”

“What is Kimani Mbugua’s problem? Even if it’s clout, he’s after he is doing it the wrong way, bro is sacrificing all of his reputation,” remarked Elias 001.
Nairobi News highlighted his deteriorating mental health saying, “Kimani Mbugua was once a bright star at Citizen TV, but depression took him away. Seems he needs urgent help; Kimani is going crazy again.”
“Schizophrenia is no joke, he is experiencing a psychosis breakdown worsened by weed, slowly losing grip with reality. It’s like being buried alive with no way out,” noted Philip Phlein.
Past outbursts
Mbugua’s history of mental health struggles has been evident through various outbursts on his social media platforms.
In December 2023, he took the initiative to clarify the controversial viral videos about him that had circulated widely leading to speculations that he had relapsed.
He revealed that the unsettling content was deliberately crafted to shed light on the harsh realities faced by individuals grappling with mental illness.

“The point of yesterday and all the gimmicks that I have done was to show you guys how deep and dark being mentally ill is,” said Mbugua.
He assured the public of his well-being and addressed concerns raised by viewers who over his mental state.
“I’m okay, I have not lost my mind, and that is just the other side of me. There are two Kimanis, the other one you saw and now men talking to you. It’s just mental illness, nothing special,” he clarified.
