Temilade Openiyi, known as Tems, won a Grammy at the just concluded 2023 Grammy awards. The creme of Nigeria’s Music industry and politicians has joined music fans from different parts of the world to congratulate her on her win.
“It’s Tems time. Nobody can stop her shine. Superstar” posted Olamide. “Congratulations, @temsbaby,” wrote Yemi Alade. Presidential aspirant Bola Ahmed Tinubu, through his tweeter handle, wrote, “I join other Nigerians in congratulating Temilade Openiyi aka Tems on winning the grammy award in the best melodic Rap Performance category for her contribution to the hit song “Wait for U”-featuring Future and Drake.” Waje, Omowunmi, and Tiwa Savage also posted their congratulatory messages to her.

The 27-year-old, born on 11th June 1995, was propelled to fame after she was featured on Wizkid’s single, Essense, which hit the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100 after they released a remixed version with Justin Bieber. Still, in 2020, the singer featured on Drake’s song “Fountains.” Tems won the Best Melodic Rap performance category for her contribution to the hit ‘Wait for U” alongside Drake and Future, beating Dj Khaled and Kendric Lamar.
Tems’ passion for music started at an early age, and her music teacher noticed her. she then started to play the piano, and in 2018, she quit her career and learned to self-produce. In july same year, she released her debut single, “Mr. Rebel.” which she self-produced. In 2022, Tems covered Bob Marley’s “No woman, No cry” for the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Soundtrack, released in July 2022.
