The Suriname government is considering taking legal action against the producers of the new Korean hit series ‘Narco Saints’
The Latin America Country said they will take legal action as the show portrayed the country negatively.
The Narco-Saints Netflix show is based on a true story in reference to crimes that happened decades ago across the Suriname border.
The Country’s foreign Minister Albert Ramdin however in a statement posted on the Government’s website said Suriname no longer had the ‘narco-state’ image.
“Suriname no longer has the image that emerges in the series or no longer participates in these kinds of practices,” Foreign Minister Albert said.
“Whether the practices presented … are true or false, it’s creating a negative perception. The whole world sees these things, so this is not good,” his statement further said.
The Korean embassy warned their citizens living in Suriname to take care of themselves in a statement released on Tuesday after Ramdin swore to start a diplomatic war with South Korea’s Government.
“We assume Korean residents in Suriname must be greatly concerned due to the airing of the drama Narcos-Saints. Your safety is our greatest concern, and therefore the embassy will do its best to ensure your safety,” it said.
South Korea however said there was no official communication from Suriname thus no response has been given concerning the TV show.
