The world’s highest-grossing animated film is set to come in Kenyan cinemas.
The Chinese film, titled Ne Zha 2 (pronounced as Nojaa), will make a debut across Kenyan cinemas in the coming weeks.

As of now Ne Zha 2, has raked Ksh219.7 billion since its release on January 29, 2025. The sales include earnings from pre-sales and overseas earnings.
Ne Zha 2 beats Inside Out 2
Ne Zha 2 has broken the record set by ‘Inside Out 2’ to become the highest-grossing animation worldwide and one of the eight highest-grossing films of all time.

It also becomes the first non-Hollywood film to feature in the top eight highest-grossing films in the world.

Ne Zha 2 is about an unruly Chinese boy who battles dragons and his friend. The two save their souls but their physical forms face a dissolution threat. They are aided by an immortal being to reconstruct their bodies amidst numerous challenges.
The animation is directed by Yang Ku. It is based on traditional Chinese folklore and enhanced with cutting-edge events and is a sequel to the previous 2019 film.
The success of Ne Zha 2 has evoked a sense of pride across China and has received praise from notable figures in the film industry, as well as fans who have watched it.
Film ventures beyond China
It was praised for its innovative storytelling, emotional depth, and its cutting-edge animation.
“I think it was really good. The animation was perfect, the story was good, and I think they should make the third one quicker,” stated Benjamin, a fan from Australia.

“I guess. Just the relationship between the two characters, the bonding is really good. It is the best movie, best animation, and a good storyline,” he added.
Following its stellar performance in China, Ne Zha 2 has gone beyond borders with releases in Africa (Kenya), Australia, New Zealand, and North America.
