The government has revealed the timelines for the completion of the Talanta Sports City Stadium, a 60,000-seater stadium currently under construction in Nairobi.
Currently rising at Jamhuri Grounds along Ngong Road, the 60,000-seater stadium is the first purpose-built, international-standard facility Kenya has undertaken in more than four decades.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya issued an update on the progress of the national flagship project on Friday, November 14, 2025, following a comprehensive inspection of the Talanta City Stadium, which is now 66% complete.
Talanta Stadium to be ready by February 2026
CS Mvurya noted that all exterior and major infrastructural works will be finalized by the end of December 2025, paving the way for the contractor to commence finishing works in preparation for full operationalization by February 2026.
“In line with the Whole-of-Government Approach, complementary works, including rail connectivity, road upgrades, utilities, and other supporting infrastructure, are progressing steadily to ensure seamless access and enhance the stadium’s wider ecosystem,” the CS said.

This update means the earlier announcement that this year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations would be held at Talanta Sports City will not materialise.
Head of Creative Economy and Special Projects Dennis Itumbi had announced on September 12 that the 2025 celebrations would take place at the facility under the theme “Tourism, Wildlife, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions).”
“Talanta Stadium will host the country on 12th December 2025. We held our first planning meeting with Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano, during which we agreed to form an initial team to develop a comprehensive concept. Once finalized, detailed planning for the celebrations will begin,” Itumbi stated in September.
Talanta Stadium
Set to be Kenya’s first purpose-built international stadium since Kasarani (1987), Talanta Sports City is designed to rival top global arenas in technology, sustainability, and functionality.
The football-specific, yet multipurpose stadium will also host rugby, elite concerts, and major events, featuring world-class broadcast infrastructure compliant with FIFA and CAF standards.

It will feature Video Assistant Referee (VAR), goal-line technology, integrated digital systems, and parking for 3,000 vehicles. Sustainability elements include botanical gardens and green spaces. The project is being delivered by China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC).
The stadium is funded through Kenya’s first Infrastructure Asset-Backed Security (IABS). On July 23, 2025, the Linzi FinCo 003 Trust listed the Linzi 003 IABS on the Nairobi Securities Exchange, raising Ksh 44.791 billion for the stadium and its surrounding infrastructure.
This model allows private investors to fund public projects in exchange for returns backed by future cash flows.
