How to Apply for a Mining License
To obtain a mining license in Kenya, applicants must use the digital Mining Cadastre Portal. The process is initiated by creating an online account and defining the desired mining area on the portal’s interactive map.
Key steps include:
- Company Registration: The applicant must operate as a locally registered Kenyan company with a valid KRA Tax Compliance Certificate.
- Environmental Compliance: Securing an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) license from the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) is mandatory.
- Documentation Submission: Required documents include a comprehensive feasibility study (for large-scale operations), a detailed mining program, proof of financial capacity, and plans for local community engagement.
