The National Police Service (NPS) has issued an update on the Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission in the Carribean nation of Haiti led by Kenyan Police officers.
NPS in a statement on Friday, August 2, 2024, provided an update of key wins that the officers have achieved so far in the MSS Mission which also comprises officers from the Haiti National Police (HNP).
“The National Police Service jointly with the Haiti National Police Service forming up the Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission in Haiti have made significant strides in the restoration of security in Haiti,” read part of the statement.
NPS highlighted that the MSS team has liberated another town from gangs, days after it successfully recaptured Auorite Portuaire Nationale (APN) port from the hands of gangs.
Further, the Police Service said that the MSS team has made significant strides in reclamation of a general hospital that had been under the control of gangs.

Ganthier Town Liberated from Haiti Gangs
In addition, the MSS team has scaled up the protection of critical infrastructure and conducted more patrols in Port-au-Prince in line with the stated milestones.
The liberation of Ganthier Town comes days after NPS revealed that it was successfully patrolling and clearing road blockades that had been erected along the road leading to the gang-ridden town.
“As part of the team’s effort to provide security for critical infrastructural sites and transit locations, the MSS has made significant strides in patrolling and clearing road blockades that had been erected along the road leading to the gang-ridden town of Ganthier,” said NPS in a statement.
However, the Multinational Security Support Mission has had its own challenges majorly occasioned by persistent retaliation from the gangs who have shifted to use guerilla tactics to attack the security officers.

On Monday July 29, Haiti interim Prime Minister Garry Conille was forced to leave a hospital in the capital Port-au-Prince under heavy fire after an interview with CNN on Monday July 29.
Shots Fired at General Hospital in Presence of Prime Minister
CNN was interviewing Conille at General Hospital, which has been damaged by gangs, when loud gunfire was heard in the neighborhood.
The city’s damaged General Hospital, which was once a key public health facility, had been taken back from gang control in early summer by the Haitian National Police and then again by the joint MSS forces.
Several journalists and the Head of the national police, Normil Rameu, were present during this tense moment with Conille initially continuing with the interview.
However, a statement later said that the PM had just finished recording the interview when they heard the shots. Amid the tensed environment, the security agents fired a few shots as Conille left the hospital.
Further actions were taken by the national police and MSS force, who investigated where the shots came from and worked to calm the area. No one was injured as Prime Minister Conille was safely returned to his office.
