Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested an individual on Wednesday, November 13, suspected of being a ringleader in selling Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.
In a statement, the DCI said the suspect had amassed a following of over 78,000 exam leakage seekers on his Telegram account and over 8,500 in his WhatsApp groups.
“Operating under the guise of a female named Dorothy Jerop Kiprono, the 23-year-old man had become the nightmare of KNEC officials, having mobilized a following of over 78,000 exam leakage seekers on his Telegram account and over 8,500 in his WhatsApp groups,” part of the statement read.
The suspect, Kemboi, was arrested in Kiamunyi after a manhunt was jointly launched by DCI officers from the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) and their counterparts in Nakuru County.
KCSE Leakage supplier arrested by DCI officers
During his arrest, detectives found the gadget the suspect was using to solicit cash from people seeking exam leaks.
The detectives also found SIM cards and identification cards bearing different names at his home.
“His key asset – an Infinix Hot 10 Lite phone – used to fleece unsuspecting grade-seekers was confiscated, alongside several SIM cards, national IDs bearing different names, and a driving license,” the statement read.

Detectives also established that the suspect is a graduate from a Kenyan university, holding a Bachelor of Arts in Human Resource Management.
They also found out that he is employed as a salesperson by an international company and has his roots in the Kaseta area of Sacho in Baringo County.
The suspect is currently being held at Nakuru Central Police Station, awaiting arraignment in court on charges of fraud and unauthorized possession of examination materials.
This arrest came amid increased reports of exam malpractices, leading to the apprehension of teachers and individuals across different areas for aiding such behavior.

Detectives arrest individuals aiding exam malpractice
Thirteen individuals were apprehended for engaging in malpractice during the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams at Nyamninia Secondary School in Gem Yala, Siaya County.
According to an occurrence book (OB) report from Yala Police Station, the incident was reported on November 11, 2024, by two officials from the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).
The officials, Joseph Nyaga and John Okoth, were dispatched from KNEC headquarters in Nairobi to oversee the monitoring of the ongoing KCSE examinations.
Elsewhere, Detectives attached to KNEC on November 11 arrested a notorious KCSE examination fraudster.
The DCI revealed that Stephen Nyang’au Mbeche was arrested in a joint operation with detectives from Masaba North.
Mbeche, who managed the “KCSE 2024 Leakage Group” on Telegram, was apprehended following an extensive surveillance operation.
