The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has issued a fresh notice to all registered taxpayers regarding new steps for verifying mobile phone numbers linked to Personal Identification (PIN) Numbers on the iTax system.
In a notice on Tuesday, November 12, KRA outlined a straightforward authentication procedure that all taxpayers are required to follow upon logging into the iTax platform.
This process is aimed at validating mobile numbers to facilitate secure communication and reliable delivery service.
“Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) reminds all taxpayers that further to our Public Notice on “Taxpayer Register Data Clean Up Exercise” dated 24th June 2024, all registered taxpayers are required to authenticate the mobile telephone number registered in iTax upon logging into the system,” the notice reads.
This notice follows the authority’s ongoing efforts to ensure the accuracy of taxpayer information through the data clean-up exercise first announced on June 24, 2024.

KRA lists Step-by-Step Authentication Guide for Taxpayers
- Login – Taxpayers should log in to iTax using their PIN and password. The system will display the mobile phone number currently registered to the account.
- Verify or Update – If the displayed mobile number is correct and preferred, taxpayers should click “send verification code” to receive a code on that number. On the other hand, if the number is inaccurate or no longer preferred, users can update it on the pop-up screen to their current mobile number before proceeding.
- Enter Verification Code – A code will be sent to the selected mobile phone number. Taxpayers must enter this code on the iTax platform to complete the login and verification process.
The data clean-up exercise, which began in June, marked KRA’s first major effort to verify taxpayer information in response to the need for accurate and up-to-date records.
At the time, the Authority emphasized that the initiative aimed to uphold the integrity of the taxpayer register and ensure the delivery of efficient services.

A significant enhancement in the process was the introduction of the One-Time Password (OTP) system for mobile verification, designed to strengthen security on the platform.
KRA’s latest notice reinforces the use of the OTP system, ensuring that only verified contact information is linked to taxpayers’ PINs.
Additionally, taxpayers are urged to complete the mobile number verification promptly to help KRA maintain accurate records and improve communication with taxpayers.
