Moi Hospital Clarifies Case of Boy with Nail Stuck in His Head

The Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) has addressed reports regarding a viral photo circulating on social media, which depicts a boy with a nail stuck in his head.

In a statement dated March 29, the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital clarified that the boy was never admitted to the facility.

“Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) wishes to inform the public that the child allegedly assaulted by a relative was not brought to MTRH for treatment, contrary to reports circulating on various social media platforms,” read the statement.

Multiple posts on social media, including one from Nairobi Chief Environment Officer Geoffrey Mosiria, had claimed that the boy was admitted to MTRH after his stepmother hammered a nail into his head for boiling and eating an egg without permission.

“A Grade 3 boy is admitted to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, awaiting surgery after his stepmother hammered a nail into his head for boiling and eating an egg without permission,” Mosiria wrote in his post.

The viral image sparked public discourse regarding the relationship between children and stepmothers, with many people calling for authorities to take action against the stepmother for her act.

An X user named Joyce expressed her concern, stating, “Oh no. I pray that the boy lives and recovers fully. That stepmother must be dealt with to the full extent of the law.”

Another user, Meg, added, “Not all stepmothers are evil. I was raised by a stepmom, and she gave me the best. This is so unfortunate.”

Kenyans Reaction Towards the Viral Photo

However, a user named Karura claimed that the viral photo was not taken in Kenya but in Uganda.

“I saw this photo earlier, and the comments indicate that it is something that happened in Uganda. Please verify its authenticity,” Karura wrote.

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko also joined the debate, asking Kenyans in Eldoret to confirm whether the boy in the photo was admitted to MTRH.

“Can someone in Eldoret confirm whether this is true? Grade 3 pupil admitted at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital awaiting surgery after his stepmother hammered a nail into his head for boiling and eating an egg without permission,” Sonko asked.
