Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Limited (NCWSC) has issued a public notice to landlords and customers with illegal water connections, giving them a 30-day ultimatum to regularize their connections.
In a statement dated April 1, the company indicated that failure to comply by April 30, 2025, will result in consequences for those found to be in violation.

“Applicable penalties will be waived for customers who voluntarily regularize their water connections on or before Wednesday, April 30, 2025. After that date, any customer found with an illegal water connection will be charged and prosecuted, in addition to being required to pay any applicable fines and penalties,” the statement read.
Nairobi Water Issues Warning to Landlords
As part of this initiative, NCWSC is waiving penalties for those who willingly comply within the specified timeframe.

The campaign aims to curb unauthorized water usage, ensure equitable distribution of water, and enhance service reliability.
According to the company, illegal connections not only strain the city’s water supply but also pose risks to water quality and public health.

Customers with illegal connections or tampered meters are urged to visit any NCWSC Regional Office to legalize their water supply.
The company also reminded residents to clear any outstanding water bills to avoid service interruptions. Payment options include *260#, MPESA Paybill 444400, and various banking partners such as NCBA, ABSA, Citi, Cooperative, Equity, Sidian, and Diamond Trust Bank.

Instructions on How to Pay Water Bills through MPESA:
- Go to the M-PESA Menu.
- Select ‘Pay Bill’.
- Enter the Business Number: 444400.
- Enter your bill account number.
- Enter the amount you wish to pay.
- Key in your M-PESA PIN.
- Confirm that your entries are correct, then press OK.
Instructions on How to Pay Water Bills through Airtel Money:
- Select Airtel Money from your menu.
- Select ‘Make Payments’.
- Select ‘Paybill’.
- Select ‘Nairobi Water’.
- Enter the amount you want to pay in KES.
- Enter your PIN.
- Under ‘reference’, enter your Nairobi Water account number.
