Nigeria’s military has said that troops across the country intensified offensive operations over the past 48 hours, crushing several terrorist cells, rescuing 17 people taken in kidnappings and detaining 20 suspects.
This is part of a wave of coordinated actions that came after a public threat by US President Donald Trump to consider military intervention.
In a statement posted on its official X account, the Nigerian Army said operations were conducted simultaneously in the North-East, North-West, North-Central and South-South regions and credited joint task forces, local volunteer units and air components with disrupting planned attacks and seizing arms and logistics.
The service posted a detailed operational account of clashes in Borno and Adamawa states, including the foiling of a suspected vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) in Kukawa and the discovery and disposal of roadside bombs along supply routes.

“Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have successfully thwarted multiple terrorist attacks and neutralized key threats,” the army said, describing ambushes, night operations, and follow-up exploitation missions that recovered weapons, ammunition, and other materials.
Trump Threatens Nigeria
The statement said soldiers, backed by intelligence, pressed insurgents into the Mandara Mountains and the Sambisa Forest and suffered no casualties during the reported actions.
The army’s account came amid international alarm after President Trump urged the U.S. Defense Department to prepare for “possible action” in Nigeria and warned that Washington would halt aid if Abuja did not stop mass killings of Christians.
In a post widely circulated by US and international outlets, Trump warned the Nigerian government to “move fast” or face “fast, vicious” action.
“If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, “guns-a-blazing,” to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities.”
Nigeria Military Response
Nigerian authorities have stressed that the country is confronting multiple, complex security challenges from Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in the northeast to banditry and kidnappings in other regions.

The army’s public account explained cooperation with the Civilian Joint Task Force and local hunters in making arrests and intercepting supplies, and said air assets provided precision strikes and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance support.
For now, the army’s communiqués appear aimed at projecting control and reassuring the public after the high-profile US remarks.
The Nigerian government has not announced a formal diplomatic response to Trump’s post beyond statements reiterating its constitutional commitment to religious freedom and its ongoing efforts to protect all citizens.
