8 people were reported dead after a head-on collision accident along the Homa bay-Kendu Bay Road.
The accident occurred on Monday 26 September when a Kisumu bound matatu collided head on with a fuel tanker headed to Homa bay.
The accident, purportedly caused by the over speeding matatu left both drivers of the two vehicles dead, a class seven pupil who was going back to school and five others.
The Homabay sub county police Commander Sammy Koskei said the casualties died on the spot.
“We have confirmed that eight passengers including the drivers of the Nissan matatu which was headed the Kisumu route and that of the petrol tanker died on the spot,”
“The two vehicles collided head-on at Got Kokech corner just a few kilometres from Homa Bay town leading to the loss of lives, “said Koskei.
The injured were rushed to the Homa Bay County Teaching Referral hospital for treatment while the bodies of the deceased were moved to the morgue in the same facility awaiting identification.
Koskei urged drivers to observe traffic rules and avoid speeding, especially at this time the children are getting back to school.
“We all know drivers are currently scrambling for passengers since children are going back to School, I want to warn them against speeding and they must ensure they observe traffic rules and regulations,” he said.
