The police have arrested a gang of six members after they received a tip off from members of the public.
The six were arrested in Samson Wambugu’s house in Fuata Nyayo slums of Makadara constituency.
Samson is a 19-year-old youth, suspected of being the gang leader.
The six suspected robbers are expected to be arraigned in court after police recovered two homemade firearms, a bolt cutter and one round of 9mm ammunition from their hideout.
The six include 19-year-old Samson Wambugu who was the owner of the house, David Kamau (Rams) aged 20, Dennis Muthiani alias Denchu aged 19, Collins Macharia alias Kim aged 18, Calid Juma alias Kali aged 17 years and David Irung’u alias Davi aged 20.
“Police raided the house of Samson Wambugu in the Fuata Nyayo Estate, Nairobi South ward, and arrested a gang of six suspected robbers. Upon search, 2 homemade pistols with one round of 9mm ammunition and a bolt cutter were recovered from the suspects,” the police report read in part.
Crime rates have been on the rise in informal settlements.
In the month of September, several armed robberies were reported.
In one of the major incidents, two police officers were killed going after the suspected robbers.
