Eighty-one people were on Thursday, June, 30 charged with promoting warlike activities after being apprehended with crude weapons and paraphernalia in Mtwapa, Kilifi County.
The suspects including, 5 women and 76 men appeared in Shanzu Court over the offences they are alleged to have committed in Mikanjuni area.
Moreover, the charge sheet presented before Shanzu Court stated that the suspects, aged between 20 and 70 years made preparations for warlike undertakings against Kenyans by illegally gathering at the residence of Jefwa Kaluki Bakari while armed and singing warlike songs.
Furthermore, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) told Shanzu Senior Principal Magistrate Yussuf Shikanda that the 81 suspects were found armed with 41 pangas.
However, they all denied accusations leveled against them and were released on a Sh200,000 bond each with one surety of a similar amount. Alternatively, they are each required to pay a cash bail of Sh80,000.
According to preliminary investigations, the suspects have been meeting every Wednesday at Mr Bakari’s homestead in Kilifi County for unknown reasons.
Moreover, police report state that, the suspects drawn from Mombasa, Kilifi, Tana River, Taita Taveta and Lamu counties are leaders of an underground group planning to disrupt the government.

According to the report, the 81 suspects allegedly met to make preparations of how to implement their mission.
Nevertheless, on Wednesday, June 29, police arrested the 81 suspects with weapons including machetes, knives and witchcraft paraphernalia associated with the Mombasa Republican Council (MRC).
The suspects were found following a tip off from members of the public at Mr Bakari’s house in the Golden Key area of Mtomondoni. At the time of arrest, the suspects were allegedly taking oath.
The case will be mentioned on July 14, 2022.
