A suspected thug was gunned down by undercover police in Kayole on Friday, September 16.
The said thug was among a group of five that had terrorized residents in the area over time.
Residents called the police who gunned down the thugs.
In an attempt to escape, the thug was gunned down as he tried to fire at the police who in turn fired back.
In a police report that was released, the thugs had for a long time terrorized the Duka Moja area residents with petty robbery.
The report further clarified that the thugs were gunned down after they defiled orders to surrender.
“The Soweto undercover team got reports from the public that there was a gang that was robbing the public along Duka Moja area. They spotted a group of five who fled towards the Ngong river and split into groups of two. They were challenged to surrender but they defied and started firing at the officers,” a police report reads in part.
The suspects dropped a carrier bag that contained three mobile phones, a laptop, several rounds of ammunition, bhang, and Ksh50 as they escaped towards Ngong’s river.
The other four suspects managed to escape with the firearm used to fire at the police.
Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have since then launched a search pursuing the escapees.
