Comedian turned activist Eric Omondi was on Monday, April 3 arrested in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) while demonstrating.
In a short video clip seen by The Kenya Times, a handcuffed Omondi is seen being held by the waistline of his trousers by two plain-clothes policemen while their uniformed counterparts follow behind.
A crowd of Kenyans can also be seen trailing the police and the comedian while being tear-gassed by law enforcement officers.

Omondi’s arrest comes just hours after President William Ruto met with a section of parliamentary leaders to establish a framework on the bipartisan parliamentary process to discuss the issues raised by the opposition which prompted weekly demonstrations.
Ruto came up with the proposal on Sunday when he addressed the nation, asking Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance coalition to call off the demos.
“My suggestion is that this matter can be handled by Parliament so that we can agree on what the issue is and we can adjust as agreed and as necessary,” Ruto said.
In a statement on Monday, President Ruto stated that he has urged the leaders to consider the proposal and address the matter effectively.
