Abubakar Abdullahi Resigns from TV47
In March 2023, Abdullahi resigned from his position as CEO and Chief Editor at the station.
He bid farewell to colleagues with an emotional note highlighting his achievements in his four-year tenure at the station.
“It has been a lifetime honor and privilege to serve as your Chief Editor and subsequently as your Chief Executive Officer for the last four years.
“I made a commitment that we will fight for our spot in Kenya’s competitive media landscape. I am proud that we have made tremendous progress together,” he said in his exit note.

Stint at the Station
Abubakar was appointed acting CEO of the then-budding TV station in July 2020.
Under his leadership, TV47 rose to become one of the fastest-growing television stations in the country, earning recognition for its youthful, relatable, and issue-driven reporting.
However, he was demoted to be Head of TV a position he held until he left the Cape Media-owned broadcaster.
“We were ranked the fastest-growing TV in Kenya and our numbers continue to grow.
“At the heart of my philosophy has been to create a humane company that puts the interest of its staff members first,” he added in his goodbye letter.
While the reasons for his return have not been publicly disclosed, media insiders suggest it may signal a strategic reset at the station.
Before joining TV47, Abubakar worked at Elm TV, iTV and Standard Media Group.
