The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji has shed light on the investigation into the Aror and Kimwarere dam scandals.
Speaking during a televised interview on NTV, Haji who was defending the role of his office in fighting corruption spoke of graft cases featuring government officials which he effectively prosecuted and received convictions in the law courts.
“If you look at the Waluke case, historically it is one of the biggest cases, especially for the huge fines the court gave those involved,” Haji said, referring to the case against Sirisia MP John Waluke and business partner Grace Wakhungu who were convicted for defrauding the National Cereals and Produce Board Ksh313 million.
“One other case that we are pursuing and we have really put a lot of effort in is the Aror and Kimwarer case and cases against the governors which we are sure we will get a conviction,” Haji continued.
Asked by NTV’s Mark Masai whether the graft cases on the Aror and Kimwarer dam scandals target Deputy President William Ruto, DPP Haji said that there is no evidence linking the DP to any of the two cases.
“From where I seat, there might be assumptions that he was somehow involved in it but as we stand today and as the file is in court I have not seen his name anywhere and that doesn’t mean that I’m siding with anybody,” Haji said in reference to the scandals that saw taxpayers lose close to Ksh16 billion
