Irungu said that the bandits are suspected to have crossed from the neighboring communities and not Al-shabaab militants as had earlier been suspected.
He said that the distance from the Kenya-Somalia border to the area is reasonably long (1000 km), making it logistically impossible for the bandits to flee on time.
Meanwhile, police authorities have arrived in the area as further investigations are underway.
