Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru was elected as the Council Of Governors (COG) chairperson.
Waiguru will assume the position as COG chairperson for the next one year.
Moreover, members of the COG committee were elected during the three-day induction workshop for Governors and Deputy Governors in Mombasa County.
In addition, it was unanimously agreed that Governor Waiguru would spearhead the council and would be deputized by Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi and Nandi’s Stephen Sang as the Chief Whip.
Furthermore, the workshop which ended on Saturday, September 17 saw an election held for the Executive and the Council Committee Chairs.

- Fernades Barasa – Finance, Planning and Economic Affairs Health – Muthomi Njuki
- Kenneth Lusaka – Agriculture, Livestock and Cooperatives
- Andrew Mwadime – Water, Forestry and Natural Resources Management
- Anyang’ Nyong’o – Land, Housing and Urban Development
- Eric Mutai – Education
- Mutula Kilonzo – Legal, Constitutional Affairs and Intergovernmental Relations
- Simon Kachapin – Gender, Youth, Culture, Sports and Social Services
- Wilber Ottichilo – Environment and Climate Change
- Issa Timamy – Blue Economy
- Kimani Wamatangi – Energy, Roads, Transport and Infrastructure
- Nathif Jama – Arid, Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) and Disaster Management
- Cecily Mbarire – Resource Mobilization and Partnerships
- Wisley Rotich – ICT and Knowledge
- Dhadho Godhana – Security and Foreign Affairs
- Wavinya Ndeti – Trade, Industry, Manufacturing and Enterprise Development

Nevertheless, the CoG Vice Chairperson shall chair last committee which brings together the Executive and the Chairpersons of all Committees is Liaison, Management and Resource Management Committee.
Meanwhile, through a statement issued on Saturday, September 17, the council said it will prioritize engagement with the president to define a shared roadmap for the actualization of devolution commitments
It will also foster engagement with Development Partners and other stakeholders in the implementation of Devolution.

Likewise, it will establish linkage with the parliament, so as to facilitate review and development of policies and laws which are aligned to the devolved system of governance.
In addition, it will support structured capacity strengthening of Counties to ensure compliance with statutory obligations in order to guarantee uninterrupted operations of the County Governments and smooth delivery of services to citizens.
