Doctors in the country have gifted their union boss a new luxurious car to enable him carry out his mandate.
The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists’ Union (KMPDU) Secretary General Dr. Davji Bhimji Atellah was gifted a new Toyota Land Cruiser.
Dr. Atellah was handed the keys to the new car during KMPDU’s two-day Special Delegates Conference (SDC) held in Nakuru.
Atellah while accepting the gift expressed resolution to serve Kenyan doctors.
“I will serve my members and Kenyans selflessly and fearlessly. Many doctors are perfectly competent to be Principal Secretaries,” he said.

Former KMPDU Secretary Genral Dr. Ouma Oluga urged Atellah to unite the union by reaching out to all members, symbolically through the vehicle,
“The SG has a real mandate and a Prado…He must reach all members,” Dr. Oluga said.
Dr. Atellah further announced that the doctors, during the SDC, resolved to resort to a strike if talks with the government for the implementation of the 2017-2021 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) fail to bear fruit.
“The KMPDU signed and registered CBA 2017-2021. This CBA was the result of a very protracted and painful 100 days strike.
“However, it seems that the Ministry of Health, the County Governments and the parastatals in healthcare have forgotten that period,” he said.
“They have abandoned the implementation of the CBA ignoring basic salary adjustments, creation of call rooms, posting of medical interns, employment, and provision of working tools and constant consultations that would make industrial harmony possible.”
