George Wajackoyah’s Roots Party has brought on board controversial figure and ‘beach boy’ Omar Lali as one of its key coordinators ahead of the August 2022 polls.
On Friday, June 24, Wajackoyah’s running mate Justina Wamae made the announcement through her Facebook page.
In the statement, Wamae argued that Omar brings the beach boys vote who are many and are at times ignored in Kenya’s development agenda.
“I have today appointed Omar Lali as Roots Party Coordinator of Beach Boys Association countrywide. Beach boys spur up the tourism economy as they are guides offering lengthy tours of the coastline and the marine parks,” Wamae said.
She further stated that other beach boys sell African souvenirs such as khangas, Maasai sandals and beadwork adding that some of these traders display their wares along the sandy stretch.
“Roots Party of Kenya looks forward to this strategic partnership,” she concluded.
Omar Lali made headlines in July 2020 after he was accused of killing his then-girlfriend Tecra Muigai who reportedly fell to her death in the bathroom of the house they shared on May 3, 2020, after a night of merry-making.
Omar was arrested and charged with murder after police and the prosecutor said they were satisfied that the death was not accidental based on evidence gathered by investigators, .
Omar was however set free after the murder charges against him were dropped by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji.
