The Energy Petroleum and Regulatory Authority (EPRA) exposed petrol stations selling adulterated fuel.
EPRA said the contaminated fuel is putting motorists and Kenyans in general at risk.
In a statement released on Friday September 30, EPRA noted that four petrol stations in Kiambu, Machakos, Kajiado and Bungoma, were selling the contaminated fuel.
Among the four stations, the one in Kajiado was shut down as the facility was offering for sale diesel and super petrol adulterated with domestic kerosene, in Kiambu was fined Ksh 500,000 and in Machakos and Bungoma, the fuel pumps were sealed.
“During the period July – September 2022, a total of 1,360 tests were conducted at 256 petroleum sites. From the tests, 98.44 per cent of the sites were found to be compliant. However, tests from four sites turned out to be non-compliant,” EPRA’s noted.
EPRA encouraged members of the public to be vigilant in reporting cases of contaminated fuel sales and went on to provide a number for the calls.
“The authority maintains a hotline number (0709336000), operational during normal working hours to enhance enforcement and compliance activities.”
“Members of the public are requested to be vigilant and are encouraged to report any suspected cases of illegal trade of LPG in cylinders through the hotline number,” EPRA stated.
