The Ministry of Education has moved to settle the ongoing debate on the admission of Grade 7 learners to Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Prof George Magoha explained yesterday that JSS will be offered in both boarding and day secondary schools across the country.
Magoha said all boarding and day secondary schools, will admit learners transiting from Grade Six to Grade Seven under CBC, based on guidelines to be provided by the ministry
Already the ministry has identified 1,500 primary schools that will host junior secondary across the country
The CS noted that some of the identified schools will be developed further to have a fully-fledged secondary wing in the future.
According to Magoha the construction of 10,000 classrooms for CBC is well on course across the country.
He added that training of secondary school teachers has been rolled out to ensure they better handle learners who will be transitioning to JSS.
