Reviewing the book, Nyokabi Macharia, an actor, singer and director said, “He is funny, he is witty, he is inspirational. We had some very vulnerable movements, it was wholesome, sometimes we have the pretty experiences that everyone wants to know about, but it was so nice to know that you are not alone, that was one of the things I really enjoyed.
I am grateful to John-Allan Namu for being honest. It was so precious, encouraging, meaningful, and funny. He is funny he should try out for comedy.”
An anonymous reviewer described THE JOY IN THE STRUGGLE as a story told in such a raw and authentic and reliable way.
“He talks about family, he talks about work and childhood experiences in such a way that tells you that a man who could be seen as so many things to so many people, also is not infallible,” the anonymous reviewer said.
“He has his vulnerabilities, but in those experiences, he finds his superpowers, he finds his humanity and finds his strength and passion to do better not just for himself, but for Kenya and the world.

This is an exceptional man, an amazing human, husband, and father who is bringing us into his life, his pain, his passion, his joy, and his pride and letting us know that we can share in this journey” Anonymous
Maurice Otieno, the Executive Director of Baraza Media Lab says the memoir takes him back to all the experiences that shaped my world view. It was interesting to hear the why and what motivated him to do the stories.
His life story and work affect how I view the world. I was in the terror attack at Riverside Drive and his video gave us hope as we were hiding in the lady’s washroom, that the calvary was coming,” Otieno says. The memoir will be out in July 2023.
