The wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, has decided to drop his aspirations as the next speaker for the National Assembly, days after he picked the nomination papers.
It is believed that the Wiper Party Council convinced Kalonzo to drop the bid and instead work on himself, after convening for a meeting at the party’s headquarters.
President Uhuru Kenyatta gazette the first sitting of the National Assembly and Senate to be held on September 8, 2022 at 9 am, where members of both houses are expected to elect their speakers after they are sworn in.
A number of MPs allied to the Kenya Kwanza party claimed Uhuru was intentionally delaying the gazettment.
A bigger section of MPs believes that Azimio One Kenya Coalition lacks the numbers to help Kalonzo win, with several MPs defecting to Kenya Kwanza.
Kalonzo was among 15 or more others that had picked the senate speaker nomination papers.

The nomination qualifications are however clear and strict according to the Article 106(1)a of the constitution and upon returning of the submission papers, it will be determined which aspirants qualify for the powerful seat.
All the aspirants were instructed to return the completed nomination papers by 2:30pm on Wednesday, September 7,2022.
“Completed nomination papers together with each candidate’s curriculum vitae, copy of national ID or Passport, and two colored passport photos should be returned to the office of the clerk of the Senate not later than 2:30pm on Wednesday, 7th September 2022.” Read part of the notice.
