Martha Karua has stated why she doubts whether the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) can conduct credible elections.
The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya presidential running mate was addressing more than three thousand women at the launch of the ‘Million Women Voters for Martha’ initiative in Nairobi on Saturday, July 9. She urged IEBC to stand up for the country.
“We don’t trust IEBC because they don’t trust themselves. The professionals are not standing up for the country. Let them restore trust among themselves,” stated Karua.
“Stand up for your country and do what is right. Institutions are you and me. If the returning officer does it right, then it benefits the entire country.” She added.
Moreover, Azimio leadership are resorted to take advantage of the large number of women voters in the country. Through the ‘Million Women Voters for Martha’ initiative, Azimio plans to propel the ‘Baba na Martha’ presidential ticket

Ida Odinga also stated that: “We want to get the maximum number of women in governance. For the first time in Kenya’s history, a woman will be elected Deputy President.”
In addition, Karua mentioned that women should campaign for other women in leadership. She further added that her nomination and Raila’s running mate was not politically instigated.
“It takes a courageous man to select a courageous woman. Raila didn’t select a woman because it’s a political season, but because he believes in a woman,” she added.
“Our opponents say they have the highest women representation, but those are just candidates, let’s wait and see the actual representation after polls.”
Furthermore, the ‘Million Women Voters for Martha’ Initiative is set to conduct a recruitment drive in the next 7 days as it seeks to consolidate the women vote in the Azimio basket.
