Kenya will play host the first G25 African Coffee Summit (ACS) scheduled to be held from starting 25th -27th May in Nairobi.
The summit is expected to bring together Heads of States and Government of the 25 African Coffee Producing Countries who are expected to marshal consensus for integrating coffee as an anchor commodity in the African Union (AU) in harmony with the Africa Union Agenda 2063.
The summit’s theme is ‘Sustainable Development and Economic Growth in the African Coffee Sector’
During the summit participants are expected to address the challenges faced by the African coffee sector under the auspices of the African Union to build a united and integrated Africa.
Kenya intends to sue the summit to strike deals that will see her export coffee to more African countries.
Coffee is a source of livelihoods to an estimated 10 million people in Africa
Coffee is the second most traded commodity globally after oil with an estimated turnover of USD 0.5 trillion.
The Summit will also be looking into ways of promoting value addition and domestic consumption in conjunction with educating people on coffee and its benefits on health as well as expanding coffee trading regionally under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) framework.
