Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) reported that Kerio Hospital in Kabarnet municipality, Baringo County has voluntarily surrendered a parcel of land said to have been dubiously acquired from the government.
According to EACC the land was irregularly acquired on December 23, 2004 by one John Sergon who then sold it to Kerio hospital in 2017 for Ksh.4.2 million.
Furthermore proprietors of the land, identified as Dr. Kibet Ruto and his counterpart Charles Kurgat, on Thursday surrendered the title deed to the parcel of land back to the state via the graft watchdog’s offices in Nakuru.
Moreover the 0.185 ha piece of land is estimated to be now worth Ksh.5 million.
“This is a rare occurrence where persons who have knowingly or unknowingly acquired public property decide to voluntarily surrender the same back to the State for public benefit,” EACC said in a statement.
“When Kerio Hospital Limited learnt from EACC that the land had been grabbed from the Government, sold to them and a Title Deed issued, the Hospital wrote to EACC on August 27, 2022 seeking to surrender the same back to the Government.” The stated further read.
Nonetheless the two doctors are said to have delivered the title deed to EACC in the presence of their lawyer, Wanjiku Nduati.
“The Title Deed was received in Nakuru on behalf of EACC CEO TwalibMbarak, by the EACC South Rift Regional Manager, Mr. Ignatius Wekesa. EACC has commenced the process of reverting the land back to the Government,” said EACC.
